Applying for a visa
Please note! When applying by post stamped self-addressed envelope should be attached. It is strongly recommended not to book or purchase flight tickets until the Consular Section has issued your visa. This recommendation does not apply to transit visas.
List of the documents to be submitted to the Consular Section:
1. Passport
- Passport must be valid within six months after visa expiry date and contain at least two blank visa designated pages.
- Damaged passports or passports with marks, reservations, records, erasures, corrections, torn pages are not acceptable.
- Only the original of passport is accepted (no copies, photographs).
2. Electronic visa application form (one per person) VERY IMPORTANT!
- It must be properly and fully completed on this Web-site only (https://visa.kdmid.ru/) then printed out and signed by an each applicant. A hard copy of the electronic visa application form must contain a unique track-number on its top and destination: Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ireland (specimen of Application Form).
- Corrections and amendments in the application form made by hand are not acceptable.
3. One photo glued to the form (3.5 x 4.5 cm, format: "passport size").
4. A copy of travel/health insurance policy
- It must be valid in Russia for the whole period of the journey.
- Details of the policy including the policy number, dates of validity, etc. must be stated in the visa application form as well.
5. Appropriate payment (in EURO only)
- From march 21, 2022, the Consular section accepts payments in euro in cash only
- The fee is charged for checking the documents and it is not refundable in case of refusal.
- Please note that starting from December 25, 2023 citizens of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland are required to pay a standard fee for the Russian visa application (regardless of the purpose of travel, including tourism).
6.Visa supporting documents depending on the main purpose of visit:
BUSINESS, HUMANITARIAN, STUDY and WORK visas:
An official letter of invitation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia or the General Administration for Migration Issues of the Internal Ministry of Russia on request of the host organization in Russia.

- An HIV/AIDS negative test (not older than 3 months) must be provided when applying for STUDY and WORK visas* and if you are going to stay in Russia more than 90 days сeaseless.
*If applying for STUDY or WORK visa, the passport must be valid for not less than 18 month from the beginning of your visa validity period.
TOURIST visas:
A standard «tourist confirmation» issued by the authorized host Russian travel agency only.
Instead of a tourist voucher citizens of certain countries may provide confirmation on booking
in a hotel or other accommodation facility, information about which is contained in the unified list of the Russian hotels, ski slopes, beaches.
- The documents must contain an applicant's name, passport number, dates and points of arrival and departure, cities to be visited, agency's reference (registration) number.
- All the information in the documents as well as the stamps and signatures must be clearly readable.
- Applicants going for auto tourism should also enclose a photocopy of Vehicle Registration Certificate, travel itinerary and the names of the accompanying persons.
- Tourists on board of Cruise ships have the right to stay in the Russian Federation without a visa for up to 72 hours. They may leave the ship and come back on board as a part of an organized tourist group only. Tourists who would like to leave the ship on their own must apply for a tourist visa.
PRIVATE visas:
An official letter of invitation issued by a local branch of the General Administration for Migration Issues of the Internal Ministry of Russia on request of the host person in Russia.
TRANSIT visas:
Valid tickets for entry and exit from the Russian Federation or guarantees of its purchase in the Russian Federation, a valid visa of the country you want to enter after leaving Russia (if required by that country or a document confirming that the visa is not required) or passport of that state.
- A Transit visa is not required if you remain in the transit zone of the airport within 24 hours in order to catch an onward or connecting flight. Transit visas can be valid for maximum of 3 days if travelling by air and 10 days if travelling by train.
- Passengers travelling to/from Belarus and Kazakhstan via the Russian Federation need to obtain the transit Russian visa irrespectively of their duration of stay in Russia.
7. Proof of permanent/long term residency in Ireland (for non-Irish Nationals only).
- A visa is issued to a foreign citizen who is located in a State other than the State of citizen's nationality only if this applicant has a permit for continuous stay in this country for more than 180 days.
As a rule, such documents may be:
a residence permit (a copy of IRP/GNIB card must be attached),
a study or work visa,
or other documents issued by the competent authorities of the host country. - If applicant's travel passport allows an applicant to stay in Ireland more than 180 days without any migration permission a Public Service Card (copy) or Cover Letter from the Employer or Educational must be attached.
- Non-Irish Nationals who temporarily stay in Ireland should apply for a visa at the Russian Embassy accredited in the country of their nationality.
- In some cases non-Irish Nationals must apply for a Russian visa in the country of their nationality irrespectively of the duration of their residency in Ireland.
